STEVE

AT THE BIKE ZOO

Steve moved to Knoxville from his home in Chattanooga in the fall of 1988 under the guise of continuing his education at the University of Tennessee. In reality he was paying tuition to UT but was actually using the time as a winter training camp for the upcoming racing season. Racing continued as the primary focus for Steve through the 1992 season when he took a more serious role at the Bike Zoo. After receiving his BA in Psychology from UT, Steve became a partner at the Bike Zoo. He currently lives in South Knoxville with his wife Laura, who opened her own Veterinary Hospital in Seymour, TN in 2003. Steve continues to ride and race on the road in the Masters and Category 2 fields, although not nearly as seriously as he did early in his career.

CURRENT ROAD BIKE:
Specialized S-works Tarmac SL w/ Dura-ace 10 speed
“This is by far the sexiest bike in the peleton. Not only does it look great but it has the perfect combination of smooth ride, super stiff bottom bracket and great tortional rigidity.”

CURRENT MOUNTAIN BIKE:
Specialized Epic Marathon w/XT and Fox Terra-logic fork “The Epic has the best technology available, rigid when the terrain is smooth and active suspension when it’s not. What more could you want?”

CURRENT TANDEM:
Ibis Touché w/Dura-ace and Ultegra
“The tandem allows me to convince my wife to ride when it’s 25 degrees outside.”

CURRENT TRACK BIKE:
Specialized Langster w/Seven Carbon Fork
“This was the best money I ever spent on a bike. I ride with a 42/18 gearing that makes me push hard on the up hills and spin my legs off on the descents. It also keeps me warmer in the winter by not allowing me to coast.”

CURRENT CROSS BIKE:
Specialized Tricross Comp w/105 10 speed
“My fist and only cross race was aboard a 30lb. full suspension bike and was one of the most miserable experiences I’ve ever had on a bike. I hope for a better ride on this new bike."
